Hello! If you’re reading this, you’re probably looking for a therapist. I know this process can really suck. I hope that reading a bit about how I work will make the search easier, regardless of who you decide to work with.
People who enjoy working with me are often going through life transitions, feeling stuck, experiencing loneliness, and/or struggling with completing things they need to do. My clients say that I make them feel seen, but never judged. They find it easier to process complicated feelings from our work together, and report that they’re able to be nice to themselves more often. This means the world to me as a clinician and as someone who works a lot with my own inner critic! I am a queer, nonbinary, culturally Jewish, and mixed-race clinician, and I strive to practice within an anti-oppressive framework. This includes recognizing and trying to understand the many different socioeconomic, cultural, and personal factors that impact mental health. My guiding principle as a clinical social worker is that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you on your path of self-discovery. I decided to become a clinical social worker because in addition to direct mental healthcare, I also wanted to learn about helping my clients learn how to advocate for themselves and attain more agency in the world.
In session, when self-judgment and self-criticism come up for my clients, I often find using humor and playfulness to be especially helpful (especially when someone’s learning to change the way they talk to themselves). I’m always excited about opportunities to share executive functioning support tools, learned from my work with neurodivergent kids and young adults and from my college and career counseling background. I welcome creative expression in session, and am continually building my clinical skills in expressive arts and drama therapy techniques. I also frequently use mindfulness practices in sessions to support clients with staying present, or to create a “container” for the content of the session.
If you feel excited about working with me based on what I've written out here, let's try out a consultation and see if we're a good fit. I look forward to talking with you!
