MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY TRAINEE IN PRACTICUM AT Pacifica graduate institute
mbarayang@axismunditherapy.org
TELEHEALTH only
Supervised by Elysha Martinez, LMFT #93493
As a therapist trainee, my work lives in the space between heartbreak and becoming; being able to sit with someone while we look directly at the thing everyone else has turned away from.
In my practice, I honor both collectivist and individualist worlds- the tension between belonging and becoming, and what it means to grieve the identities that no longer fit. This is tender, sacred work: staying awake where we’ve been lulled to sleep, making contact with both grief and what grows out of it.
I practice Depth-oriented psychotherapy from a decolonial and Liberation Psychology lens- guided by myth, dream, image, and symbol. My approach is spiritually rooted in the pre-colonial, revolutionary, animist practices of my Filipino ancestral lineage and inspired by the Babaylan shaman priestesses who held the threads between the seen and unseen. I am a queer, first-generation Filipina American, a highly sensitive person, and a devoted witness to the unthought but known truths our bodies have always remembered, even when words have not yet come.
