It’s okay to be exactly who you are. It’s also okay to not be. With so many competing expectations — from society, family, trauma responses, and even our therapists — we can often feel pushed to quiet parts of ourselves for the sake of others. Depending on who we are and the situations we’re in, it can sometimes even feel safest to do so. Yet each time we do, it has the potential to negatively impact our lives, even as it supports our survival. So how do we liberate ourselves within the dynamic between our own unique experiences and identities and societal expectations?
No matter how your personal experiences or identities may diverge from what society expects, I want to collaborate with you to create a safe therapeutic container — a temporary autonomous zone. A space that invites you to step into more of yourself while receiving unconditional positive regard, not only from me, and hopefully over time, from yourself as well.
Drawing on your unique strengths, challenges, desires, and dreams for how you want your life to be, and my training and background, we can work together to find the practices and pathways that feel most supportive. This might include exploring how societal shaming, oppression, and marginalization impact mental health; building nervous system regulation and trauma recovery skills; engaging parts work to transform internal relationships; incorporating personal spirituality or proto-psychology practices as developmental tools; and/or cultivating creative practices or community organizing as vehicles for healing and empowerment.
I dream of a society where each of us can authentically walk our paths while interdependently supporting one another through community, and I feel deeply honored to support others in cultivating this in their own lives.
